About Us

Downsview Baptist Church can be traced back to the early 1930s. A group of believers on Downsview Avenue, concerned for their quickly growing neighbourhood, began to meet in a cleaned-up chicken coop under the name of Grandview Baptist Church. Soon the growing congregation moved to a small building on the lot just west of the present building. Faithful men and women from Fairbank and Oakwood Baptist Churches supported this new work, helping with the well-attended Sunday School and weekly children's meetings. In 1953 the current property was purchased and a building erected by the members of the church. At this time the name was changed to Downsview Baptist Church and, with its 29 charter members, was recognized and received into the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada.

In 1981, again with a great deal of hard work on the part of the church family, the building was renovated, allowing for more meeting space and a spacious foyer. Many years have passed since those first few neighbours saw the need for a Gospel work in the Downsview area.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  1 John 1:9

We are so grateful for their faithfulness and for  all the pastors, members and adherents that have followed. They gave of themselves unstintingly to see the ministry grow with souls saved and believers strengthened in their faith.  God has been so gracious in every way over those years and to Him be all the glory!
